TUNIS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Tunisian counterpart Kaïs Saïed affirmed Wednesday, in Tunis, their willingness to strengthen “the distinguished historical relations” between the two countries as part of a new strategic direction.
In a joint press conference with the Tunisian President, on the sidelines of his visit to Tunisia, President Tebboune emphasized the concern of Algeria and Tunisia to “boost the bilateral cooperation in various fields,” in order to achieve an “economic integration and unified, united and common prospects,” as part of “the joint efforts aimed at consolidating the deep and fraternal ties between the two brotherly peoples.”
For Tebboune, this concern emanates from “a shared will and reflects the strategic direction to which we aspire, a direction that is based on the suitable exploitation of human, historical and cultural rapprochement foundations.”
President of the Republic said that he agreed with Tunisian President to “strengthen the legal framework governing the bilateral relations as part of this new vision through the inking of an important number of agreements to consolidate the bilateral relations and extend it to vital sectors of our joint action.”
On this occasion, Tebboune expressed his thanks to his Tunisian counterpart for “the warm welcome he received,” saying he is very pleased to visit Tunisia at a time when the Tunisian people are celebrating the Revolution Day.
Concerning the economic cooperation between Algeria and Tunisia, President Tebboune reiterated the two countries’ determination to move towards “an economic integration that enables the two peoples to live in prosperity.”
“Tunisia is an extension of Algeria, and Algeria is an extension of Tunisia,” he said, adding that “Algeria totally supports Tunisia according to its capacities.”
For his part, President Saied affirmed that the relations between Algeria and Tunisia “are privileged and will become more so in the future.”
“We can’t face challenges separately. We must combine the two countries’ efforts,” he said, adding that “we have begun a new phase in the history,” referring to the coordination and cooperation between the two countries.
